Hard Drive Shredding & Electronic Data Destruction |
List of items we love to destroy: |
A Better Way Computer Recycling offers full data destruction services to include shredding, overwriting, and degaussing. We have a beautiful shredder in our warehouse that just loves to eat hard drives!
We offer full serialized reporting for your records. Each drive is scanned into our database, and customers are provided a serialized report of destruction when requested. Our data destruction process is in full compliance with all federal regulations and laws - HIPAA, FACTA, Gramm-Leach-Biley Act, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and many others. |

Shredding - Physical Destruction
As seen below, we have a shredder in our warehouse that will eat any hard drive, backup tape, cell phone, or USB stick. If you have high security needs, this is a great option for secure destruction of your data.
This process takes mere seconds for the shredding of each hard drive - and faster, still, if you need to destroy items like backup tapes or cell phones. Take a look below, and witness the power of the shred!

We can provide your business with lockable media carts to safely transport or store your electronic media. These carts may be placed on site in advance - or even filled up during one of our hassle-free pickups. Either way, your sensitive hard drives or tapes are secure.

Overwriting - Hard Drive Software Wipe NIST 800-88r1 Standard
When done properly by trained professionals, a software overwrite is just as effective as physical destruction. We adhere to NIST 800-88r1 guidelines. It is important to remember that this is not a process to erase hard drive data; instead, it overwrites the data multiple times so that it can never be recovered.
Our process also includes a verification after each drive is overwritten. This verification ensures that the drive was properly overwritten and that no errors are found during the process. If our verification process does, in fact, return errors, the drive is immediately sent to our shredder for physical destruction. We shred after overwriting quite frequently as older hard drives are prone to overwriting failure.
As with our shredding option, full serialized reporting is available with this service when requested.

Degaussing - Destroying a hard drive's magnetic domain
Your hard drive stores data magnetically. Degaussing is a process used to wipe and scramble those magnetic fields, rendering the data unrecoverable, thereby permanently destroying the data on your hard drive or tape. In fact, in the case of a hard drive it actually renders the drive itself unusable. It not only erases your data but also erases information stored inside your hard drive that tells it how to operate.
Backup tapes such as floppies, VHS, and older reel to reel tapes can sometimes be reused after degaussing. Other tapes like LTO, SLR/MLR, and QIC are not reusable after degaussing.
As with our other destruction services, full serialized reporting is available with this service when requested.
